How do you stay warm (or cool) and alert at height?

Winter work at 200 ft and summer on a hot monopole. What helps?

Cold: layers, not one thick coat: moisture-wicking base, an insulating mid layer, a windproof shell that does not restrict movement. Keep spare dry gloves and socks. Warm up at the base before climbing and avoid cotton. Hot drinks help between climbs. Numb hands drop tools, so cut the day short if you cannot feel your fingers. Heat: hydrate before you feel thirsty and add electrolytes. Wear light, breathable layers that cover your skin, take shaded breaks, and watch the crew for dizziness, confusion or cramps; heat illness gets serious quickly, and the OSHA/NIOSH heat guidance recommends acclimatization for new or returning workers. All weather: eat properly before the climb, fatigue is as dangerous as wind, and a climb that is more than you are ready for should end early with no questions asked. — CrewRating Team.
